Seniors (girls team)

Senior Participation:
For seniors on the tennis team, the situation is a little bit odd.  In many sports, seniors are only allowed to play if they make the varsity team (this does NOT apply to exchange students).  However, the rule in tennis is slightly different - seniors can play if they are needed to fill up non-varsity teams (if we are short on players).

We would like to have room for everyone who wants to play tennis.  But in reality, when teams are too big, players don't get enough practice time or matches.  The girls tennis program looked at:

Practice space and time

The team size of our competition

The cost to participate

The development path for improving players

We d
etermined a maximum team size of 42-46 players provides the best experience for players.  That typically means 12-16 players on varsity, 16 players on JV and 12-14 players on JV2.

Unfortunately, we don't know the number of players for the year until the first week of practice.  While most or all of the 42-46 spots may be filled, it is quite possible that spots will remain available for non-varsity seniors.  In 2023-2025, lots of non-varsity-level seniors opted to not play.  But for the few who did, we had just enough room to fit them in.

For seniors who want to play this year, we encourage you to:

Try to earn a spot on the varsity team through the normal tryout process.  All seniors must try for a varsity spot to be considered.

If you try out for varsity but don't earn a spot, talk with the coaches about what you'd like to do.  If there is room on the team for non-varsity seniors, it might all work out.  But be aware that there is a chance that there won't be room for all the seniors.  If they have to choose, the coaches could opt to keep players for a variety of reasons.  Having a great attitude and a love of tennis will probably matter more than skill.
